Caxton Musyimi

Caxton Musyimi is a CPA Section 2 1 student in the School of Accountancy. He is studying at the University because members of the Community Outreach Program (COP) came together to pay his fees.

Caxton lives in Kibera. Upon finishing Primary School, he joined a secondary school in Kitui District. Unfortunately, his father lost his job and he could not pay school fees for Caxton. So Caxton came back to study in the slum.

He joined John Paul II Mixed Secondary School in Kibera. As a result of his excellent performance in KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education), he was awarded a scholarship by COP and  was able to finish High School in 2008.

Strathmore students give motivational talks at the School. COP members also facilitate the donation of books, and awarding of scholarships at the school.

After high school, Caxton received help from a good Samaritan to take a Certificate Course in Computer Applications. He was interested in the University’s programmes and came for an interview and was admitted  to the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.

“I went to the school and interviewed him, and he fulfilled the conditions we needed  to give him a scholarship: he was needy and bright,” said Mr Fenuel Kalulu, one of the Administrators of  COP.

“I talked to the students to raise money for him, because his scholarship was not expected budgeted for,” Mr Kalulu said.

Caxton was determined to get to the University. So he started studying accountancy on his own. He passed the KATC (Kenya Accounting Technician Certificate) examination and joined the CPA Section 2 class in the University this year, after COP raised  the KShs 27,000 tuition fee for his first semester.

He borrowed more money for other expenses such as the examination fees, and now he can proudly say: For this semester everything has been paid!”

Dear COP members!Thank you for your kindness to keep this boy among us. I met him in 2008 and its been a good number of years now. I have a strong believe that COP not only makes hearts smile but also keeps individuals live by a good example. I now hope that Caxton can be a good asset in the COP team.
